Hi, all! @Grace Tiao and I are hiring our founding technical team to join us on a mission to organize the world's biological information and make the complex, enormous world of biological data feel small and accessible. We're not building data infrastructure or workflow orchestrators, we're building a search engine for all biology.
We're looking for:
- a founding software engineer, a product-minded generalist with experience working across the stack who thrives building technology that surfaces new scientific insights.
- a founding data engineer, who lives in the middle of data science, software engineering, and ML engineering, and is excited to build and use new technologies (including LLMs) to accelerate biological data curation by two orders of magnitude.
At the Broad, we built compilers, query optimizers, and new distributed algorithms to make petabyte-scale population genomics possible, and gnomAD, the largest public database of human genetic variation, which has contributed to over 6 million rare disease diagnoses. We've seen firsthand how the ability to explore biological data in real time doesn't just let scientists answer the same questions faster, but rather leads to fundamentally different questions and a new level of understanding. We also know from experience that the tools from the tech industry often don't translate well to biology, and that we need to be fearless in adapting or rebuilding whatever is necessary to get the job done.
We're backed by an incredible set of investors and angels -- including Jeff Dean, who's long been a personal hero of mine in the systems engineering space -- and couldn't be more excited for the journey ahead.
We're based in Cambridge, MA and work in the office together 2 days per week; these are hybrid on-site roles.

TL;DR: looking for mission-aligned people to join my research lab.
I am starting a research group in Toronto, focused on applications of machine learning to longevity research. The main goal of the group is development of ML-based pipelines utilizing generative models and active learning for efficient exploration of chemical space, and applications to the discovery of anti-aging interventions. To begin with, we will be focusing on cellular senescence and discovery of novel cryoprotectants.
I have a machine learning background myself, but the lab will have strong interdisciplinary focus, and will be a joint appointment between The Hospital for Sick Children (biggest research hospital in Canada), CS Department of University of Toronto, and Vector Institute (leading AI institute). We have very strong collaborators with expertise in cellular senescence and chemistry at SickKids and UofT, as well as ML, in particular at Mila (where I just finished my postdoc supervised by Yoshua Bengio). We also have strong industrial ties (ongoing collaboration with Genentech, exploring the possibility of spinning off one of our current projects).
I am currently looking for 1-2 ML postdocs and molecular biology lab technician (links below). In addition, we are looking for a chemistry postdoc (mostly focused on synthesis of our molecule candidates, and work on parallel synthesis and self-driving labs; will be set up in my collaborator’s lab - reach out for details if interested). Finally, I will be looking for students at UofT with enrolment in January.
Please forward to anyone that might be interested, and in case of any questions either reach out here or email me (details).

Hello everyone… I am the founder of GRAVL and we just wrapped up Techstars in the last cohort.
We are on the hunt for an A player level Head of Product (aka chaos tamer) to join the founding team. They would be joining a team that includes world-class experts in genomics, commercial operations, and AI from institutions like The Broad Institute, Harvard, Amazon, and Roche Diagnostics, with multiple successful exits.
What is GRAVL?
Gravl is a SaaS platform that provides universities with a storefront and digital marketing solution, allowing scientists from biotech and pharma to search, purchase, and submit samples for research services in just a few clicks. Unfortunately, accessing the world’s scientific equipment and services is still done through outdated methods like static websites, emails, PDF forms, and word of mouth. As a result, biotech and pharma companies only direct 12% of their $56B outsourced R&D spend to universities. The JD is attached…appreciate any networking on this opportunity.

Hello, I am building a precision medicine discovery platform in the rare disease space. We map the multi-cellular interaction context of the cell to design personalized treatments. This approach is based on research I published at Nature Medicine last year (Magen et al 2023, PMID: 37322116). The high sensitivity of the platform for rare (yet impactful) cellular interaction patterns makes it optimal for applications with small and diverse patient cohorts. I am looking for partners to join at this early stage to lead the: 1/ genomics tech dev (multimodal spatial and molecular profiling of human lesions), 2/ rare disease experts (inflammatory: IBD/RA/AD etc, pediatric/rare cancers), and 3/ drug development (target validation, design of therapeutic modalities with emphasis on antibodies).
